On an individual level, the militant recruits who are fighting the Ahmadiyas certainly seem to have rejected today's aggressive consumerist culture. But you could also argue that it is modernity and consumer capitalism that has done the rejecting-- because it doesn't know what to do with religious communities. Perhaps, people you cannot sell to cannot be allowed to exist.
